Timeline

The timeline captures the design history of your file - the entire sequence of sketches, extrusions, and other actions that you used to edit your file.
To the left are some playback controls, which allow you to play back the construction of your file - which is cool but not really functional
To the right there is a settings wheel, which allows you to disable the timeline. However, you generally shouldn't do so, as it makes it harder to edit the file in the future.
The design history is shown in the center, complete with a marker which can be dragged to show the design in various stages. Right-clicking any of the icons in the design history will open a menu similar to the one below. Editing features from the timeline is quite useful for making revisions to an existing design. One of the challenges will cover this feature more.
